Bilkent University Department of Architecture has hosted #CircularCityChallenge Workshop on January 10, 2024
On January 10th, Bilkent University Department of Architecture (BUDA) hosted an international student workshop on developing circular solutions for the post-earthquake redevelopment of Hatay. The workshop was based on the #CircularCityChallenge framework Özlemnur Ataol (University of Groningen) developed for her ongoing research project on collaborative planning. The workshop facilitator included Job Schoren (TU Delft), Bilkay Begüm Peker (Bilkent University), Tunç Karabayır (Embassy of Netherlands) and Caner Arıkboğa (Middle East Technical University) along with Sultan Çetin (TU Delft), who organized the event, Özlemnur Ataol, who coordinated the educational program, and Ezgi İşbilen (Bilkent University), who hosted the event on behalf of BUDA. About forty students from undergrad to Ph.D. levels, registered in architecture and civil engineering programs at Bilkent University, Gazi University, Hacettepe University, and TED University, have participated in developing circular strategies for reconstruction.
The #CircularCityChallenge workshop was organized as part of a two-day series of events that Embassy of Netherlands Science Fellowship 2024 fellow Sultan Çetin has organized for students, researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and representatives from the construction industry to discuss the potentials of the circular economy for the reconstruction of Hatay. May the shared knowledge and discussions beget contributions to circular solutions and inspire scientific partnerships toward that goal.
