On the Edge Exhibition

Since its declaration as the capital of the Republic of Turkey, Ankara has maintained its status as the national capital while serving as a dynamic canvas for the creation of a modern societal identity. It has reached the present day with a complex urban texture bearing traces of social and economic contradictions. Today, Ankara’s contemporary urban landscape stands out remarkably with the combination of various building blocks. Ankara is a city that is homogeneous, challenging, and spread over a vast area with magnificent dimensions, making it a complex and aesthetically versatile city.

In this exhibition, students from the Graduate Program of the Department of Architecture at Bilkent University documented urban formations on the outskirts of Ankara, focusing on areas such as Beytepe, Eryaman, and Oran, which have been pivotal in the city’s morphology. The documentation and analyses presented in the “On the Edge” exhibition provide insights from the perspective of students on the formation and transformation dynamics of the urban texture of the capital celebrating its 100th year. The “On the Edge” exhibition will be open to the public at the Ankara Rahmi M. Koç Museum from November 14 to 26, 2023.
