Gordion Excavation House

Upon our site analysis, it was seen that the surrounding of the site had elements that could cause disturbances with the life inside the excavation house, such as the heat and the cold of the steppe climate, the noise and the smell radiating from the animal barns next to the site. My primary aim was to minimize these external disturbances and achieve it in a natural way. I got inspired by the Midas Tumulus and built my design upon the idea of an earth sheltered house. Earth coverage offers temperature stability inside the house which is essential for the storage of the excavated artifacts as well as for a comfortable residency. The lightwells help to illuminate both floors and create a connection between them.
