Marimo- Ecological Depletion Repressing Center

The title of the project, marimo is inspired by spherical photosynthetic filaments that are found on the local lake near the Myvatn region, Iceland. The ecological depletion repressing center acts as a prototype for Iceland to fulfill the provisions of the site’s Outstanding Universal Value (OUV) which is to protect the landscape, geological formations, and wildlife while promoting research.

The center encloses the tip of one specific lake, forming a relationship between both above and below sea level with its intriguing façade and roof structures. As there is scientific evidence of natural wetland formation between the years 2012-2016, it is expected that with “The 30-Year Effect”; the center will also encourage natural cycles to occur with an increase of biodiversity and decrease of ecological depletion.
