Designing the Underground

In this talk, architect Ozgur Ozturk will discuss Building Information Modeling (BIM) and its integration into the subway station design process in contemporary architecture. With a focus on visualization and parametric modelling, Ozturk will examine specific architectural case studies including the recent projects that he worked on. This will introduce the use of pedestrian simulation as an effective verification tool in designing subway station buildings.

Biography:

Ozgur Ozturk graduated from istanbul Technical University as an architect in 2008 and received his master’s degree in History of Architecture from Middle East Technical University. His thesis project titled “A Digital Reconstruction of Visual Experience and the Sebasteion of Aphrodisias” examined the integration of digital visualization techniques in the architectural analysis of ancient urban architecture. Since 2011, he has been working on his doctorate degree in Architecture at METU while working as an R&D Architect and a USGBC LEED Green Associate at Yuksel Proje International. His scholarly interests are digital visualization techniques, pedestrian simulation, Building Information Modeling (BIM), Virtual Reality (VR), transit architectural design, infrastructure design, sustainable infrastructure and generative design tools.
