Position Description:
The Department of Architecture at Bilkent University invites applications for research-track faculty positions in Architecture. The successful candidates will teach in the core design studio sequence of the B.Arch program and undergraduate and graduate-level courses, and help shape the department’s design agenda. Applications are welcome in the following areas:

- Construction, material tectonics and sustainability
Across both areas, design teaching is the core requirement. Contributions to architectural design education, including studio pedagogy and curriculum development, are highly welcome as part of a candidate’s research profile.
Applicants should demonstrate an active record of research and publication, as well as a clear commitment to developing a strong scholarly agenda. The expected teaching load is 2–2, consisting of one design studio and one lecture or seminar course each semester. Responsibilities also include advising undergraduate (B.Arch) and graduate (M.Sc.) students, as well as contributing to the intellectual life of the department through core courses, electives, and graduate seminars. The anticipated start date of the position is September 1, 2027.
Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in architecture, architectural design, or a closely related discipline by the start date of the appointment; applicants who are ABD (All But Dissertation) will be considered, provided that the degree is completed before September 1, 2027. The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of a substantial and sustainable research program, a strong record of scholarly and creative output, and a clear commitment to excellence in teaching and advising.
Equally important is a demonstrated ability to work collegially and effectively with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds. The department particularly values candidates who show a commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion through their teaching, research, and service. Applicants are encouraged to highlight inclusive practices in curriculum development, pedagogy, mentoring, and departmental culture in their cover letters.
This is a 12-month appointment with full university benefits (including healthcare, retirement plan, research support, and housing assistance).
Applicants should submit the following materials:
- Cover letter describing qualifications for the position, as well as current and future research plans.
- Teaching statement, including an account of how the candidate’s research would be carried into the design studio.
- Current curriculum vitae.
- Sample of written scholarly work (published or unpublished, not to exceed 30 pages).
- (Optional) Teaching portfolio demonstrating experience in architectural design studio education
- (Optional) Evidence of teaching excellence (e.g., teaching evaluations).
- References (Contact information -mail, email, and phone- for three academic references).
Applications received by January 4, 2027 will receive full consideration, but the position will remain open until filled. Materials should be uploaded to https://stars.bilkent.edu.tr/staffapp/ARCH2027. Inquiries may be directed to the Search Committee ChairBülent Batuman, [email protected]
