Grafting the Urban Metabolism investigates İzmir’s historic corridor from Smyrna Agora to Kadifekale as a layered yet fragmented urban system. Although heritage remains physically preserved, disconnected edges, demolitions, and socio-spatial segregation weaken its relationship with everyday public life. Drawing on Space Syntax analysis, the project identifies barriers to movement, visibility, and social interaction. It proposes grafting as an urban generator strategy, introducing interconnected interventions at Agora, Kadifekale, Altınpark, and Patlıcanlı Slope. These generators combine social, educational, heritage, and environmental programs to restore circulation, strengthen community connections, and reconnect archaeological sites with surrounding neighbourhoods, supporting the gradual self-repair of İzmir’s historic core.
