Decommodification of a Capitalist Ruin: Ankapark

The project focuses on reusing approximately 1,000 tons of steel at the Ankapark site and on its potential to transform the area into a modern agricultural campus. As shown in the concept diagram, it involves dismantling the secondary support structure around the 115-meter-radius “play tents” that were abandoned in 2019 and replacing the glass cladding, thereby creating a greenhouse enclosure. The project attempts to address the spatial values of modern agricultural systems and the efficiency of soilless farming systems through three modules. Aiming to address the microclimate values of the space through modules, the project also emphasizes Ankapark’s location on the Atatürk Forest Farm land. The project evaluates the Ankapark project with a structural solution:  transforming the “Light Speed” roller coaster into an urban monument and a social center with the addition of tensile structures and creating open spaces with the carriers of the roller coaster.
