Built on the protected land of the Atatürk Forest Farm and abandoned in 2019, Ankapark survives only as roughly 1,000 tons of idle steel and a squandered stretch of public ground. This project takes that failure as both its material and its argument: instead of demolishing the wreck, it asks how the entire park can be appropriated into social infrastructure and a productive landscape for the city.
The proposal works with the steel already on site. As the concept diagram shows, the secondary support structure around the 115-meter-radius “play tents” is dismantled and the cladding is replaced, turning the abandoned canopies into a greenhouse enclosure. Three modules organize the interior around the spatial logic of modern agriculture and the efficiency of soilless (hydroponic) cultivation, while tuning the microclimate of the space. Returning food production to the Atatürk Forest Farm also restores the land to its original purpose.
The same logic extends across the park as a structural strategy. The “Light Speed” roller coaster is reworked into an urban monument and a social center: tensile structures are added to its frame, and its existing supports define new open public spaces. What stood as a monument to waste becomes civic infrastructure a working landscape that feeds and gathers the city instead of fencing it off.
