“STRATA”

STRATA interprets the layered urban identity of Bergama through a vertical spatial narrative. The term strata refers to layers formed over time, emphasizing accumulation, coexistence, and continuity rather than separation. Reflecting this concept, the Multilayered Deck system extends from basement level to ground level and up to upper layer, creating a continuous architectural section through the city’s historical depths. Different periods ranging from ancient Pergamon to contemporary Bergama are not treated as isolated fragments but as overlapping layers that interact spatially and socially. Each deck level offers distinct public experiences while remaining visually and physically connected to the others. The project frames Bergama not as a static archaeological site, but as a living urban palimpsest where history, daily life, and architecture intersect.
