Reinterpreting the Thresholds: Knitting the Urban Threads

For the Spring Term 2024-2025 ARCH 302 focused on a challenging approach on interlacing the different layers of an urban complexity located at the very core of Adana. In particular, the main challenges and the intentions within this semester aims to reimagine and integrate the urban spaces in connection with the Seyhan River and the Adana railway (including the old Train Station at the city center), creating significant urban axis through the creation of a nexus for an improved and sustainable public use. It suggests connecting these key urban elements through thoughtful, creative urban design that bridges natural, historical, and infrastructural divides.
In order to accommodate such design studies, the area located at the very center of Adana historical center, namely Kurtuluş district, has been selected. Furthermore, another important intention of this reinterpretation approach is to break the existing physical and symbolic boundaries to create expanded dimensions for multiple urban dialogue opportunities for a much more permeable, integrated and sustainable highly tailored city core.
