Set in Büyükada, “The Warehouse” explores a regenerative design strategy for ecologically fragile island territories facing seasonal pressure and environmental neglect. Located in the centre of the east coast, Aya Nikola is a damaged land long forgotten under piles of waste, including the Adalar Museum, which carries the history of the land.
The Warehouse works in three main parts. The museum area extends the Adalar Museum experience outside and regains the relationship between the public and the seaside.
The waste recycling area focuses on timber/wood waste accumulating on the island from abandoned structures and nature, aiming to recycle or reclaim materials.
The eco-lab modules are located closer to the forest for environmental research towards the ecological crisis the island suffers from.
The system collects rainwater from the hillside under the raised structures through bioswales, while the sea-bath structures are planned to serve as seasonal seawater cleaning.
