Reviving Arasta: A New Cultural and Artisan Hub in Adana


Arasta is a historic bazaar in Adana which is not serving up to its function on the desired level because of current disorganization. Therefore, this new proposal aims for generating spaces for local artisans to produce, sell and exhibit local values of Adana. Moreover, a second level for private use for students, artisans and teachers of the nearby institite of arts and crafts.

The ground floor follows the organization of existing arch structures and as the building elevates, the form becomes more organic and flexible. Because of Adana’s climate, shading and ventilation is one of the key points focused in the design of the new Arasta for better user comfort.
