Emine Çiğdem Asrav received her PhD in Architectural and Landscape Heritage at Politecnico di Torino in 2020. Her research integrates history and heritage studies within the framework of landscape research. Her interests cover multicultural heritage, multilayered landscapes, rural heritage, heritage politics, and place-based and community-driven conservation.

She has published her research in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters and has presented at national and international conferences.

She has also contributed to numerous national and international multidisciplinary projects on archaeological, modern, and rural heritage documentation, conservation and management, as well as post-disaster damage assessment and recovery, community engagement, and capacity building. She integrates GIS technologies into her research as a decision-support system for sustainable heritage management.

She received her B.Arch. and M.Sc. in Conservation of Cultural Heritage degrees from the Middle East Technical University. Before joining Bilkent University, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher in an ERC StG research project focused on landscapes of exchange in Turkey and Greece. She then conducted her Marie Curie COFUND postdoctoral research project at METU and Politecnico di Torino, where she also taught graduate and undergraduate courses. She currently teaches second-year design studios.
