Exhibition: “Bruno Taut and the house to live in: from Dahlewitz to Ortaköy (1926-1938)”

The German Diplomatic Missions in Turkey in collaboration with the Department of Architecture of Bilkent University (BUDA) presents the thematic exhibition on the work of the German architect Bruno Taut: “2 Countries, 2 Houses, 1 Architect. “Bruno Taut and the house to live in: from Dahlewitz to Ortaköy (1926-1938)”. 

The exhibition will be on display in Istanbul, Izmir and Ankara starting from November 23rd, 2023, in a sequential order. All the texts included in the exhibition are edited in German, Turkish and English.

The concept, the scientific direction for the contents, and the setting design are curated by Dr. Giorgio Gasco from the Department of Architecture of Bilkent University in Ankara. The exhibition showcases a set of architectural drawings edited by the curator’s team and reproductions of original documents derived from several archive sources (Bruno Taut Sammlung-Akademie der Künste, Berlin; Bruno Taut collection–Waseda University Library/Iwanami Shoten, Tokyo; Salt Research Archive, Istanbul; Vekam, Ankara).

İZMİR

In İzmir, the exhibition, organized with the contribution of the Faculty of Architecture of Yaşar University, opens December 1st, Friday 2023 in the main hall of the local branch of the Chamber of Architects at 18.30 and is available to public till 21:30 (1474 sokak no: 9 35220 Alsancak). The exhibition will be on display until December 10th, 2023. 

The venue is also hosting the side exhibition “Bruno Taut in İzmir: the Republican Institute for Girls and the Culture Pavilion (1937-1938)” curated by the Faculty of Architecture of Yaşar University. 

The program, in addition to the two exhibitions, includes a panel discussion on December 2nd, Saturday, at 14:00 in the seminar hall of the Chamber. The panel comprises the guest speakers Dr. Paola Ardizzola (Cardiff Metropolitan University, Cardiff), Prof. Gülsum Baydar (Yaşar University, İzmir), Cemre Birand (Journalist and Writer, İstanbul), Claudia Haas-Prandolini (Baukulturelle Vermittlung, Hamburg). The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Giorgio Gasco (Bilkent University, Ankara). 

ANKARA

In Ankara, the exhibition, organized with the contribution of Ankara University, Faculty of Language and History-Geography (DTCF), opens December 8th, Friday 2023 in the main foyer of the DTCF building at 11:00 and is available to public till 21:00 (Hacettepe Mh, Sıhhıye Kavşağı, 06100 Altındağ). The exhibition will be on display until December 23rd, 2023. 

The venue is also hosting the side exhibition “Old photographs from the archive of the Faculty of Language and History-Geography” curated by Professor Kenan Bilici (DTCF).
