This project reimagines Zonguldak’s Üzülmez district by turning a dysfunctional coal-mining site into a vibrant, sustainable community hub. Instead of erasing the valley’s industrial memory, the design weaves a modular timber structure into the steep landscape, balancing historical preservation with ecological healing. The project focuses on people and nature, introducing flexible gathering spaces, clean energy strategies, and circular economies. It breathes fresh life into industrial ruins, turning a toxic brownfield into an inviting, public-facing landscape. Strategically, the new functions and production labs create alternative, sustainable employment opportunities for local citizens and former miners, ensuring a just post-carbon transition.
