TECTONIC SYMBIOSIS


Tectonic Symbiosis is an architectural pavilion designed for the Çankaya Botanic Park in Ankara. Functioning both as an Insect and Plant Museum, the project functions as a ‘living archive’ that bridges rigid urban orientations with the botanical based park’s ecological fluidity and sole purpose. Grounded in foundational studies of anthropometry and subterranean structures, the final form is governed by a strict geometric rule-set organized through a radial system. The design features a circular volume that acts as a stabilized nucleus, hosting a biophilic café directly beneath the plant gallery to immerse visitors in a green, social environment. This core is balanced against a triangular element that provides tectonic orientation and channels movement through the site. Externally, strategically shaped lily and fish ponds function as liquid thresholds, creating a scenario of ‘forced observation’ where passing visitors are compelled to engage with the aquatic ecosystem. Seamlessly embedded into the valley topography, the project successfully synthesizes architectural rigor with biophilic strategies to establish a balanced, life-centric habitat.
