Wisdom of the Mountains

In Fall 2019 the ARCH 201 studios explored the concepts of domesticity, education and sustainability by designing spaces for collective living and learning at a challenging climate and geography. Students designed a living cluster for a group of people who have decided to live in the mountains to share their knowledge on a practice.

The community of people is predefined as two families and a group of learners. First is the family of the master of the practice; the second is the family of the assistant who helps with the practice and learning activities and also maintains the spaces. The group of learners is around ten people who live in the community temporarily to learn by working together. The definition of the practice is left open-ended. The development of the architectural program together with the spatial scenario was left to the students.
