The neighbourhood is near the Ankara Citadel and surrounded by Anafartalar, Hisar Parkı, and İpek Streets. Since being located in Ulus, the first centre of the modern city of the Early Republican Period, the area contains some of the first examples of apartment blocks and constitutes the modern heritage of Ankara. This lecture presents an analysis of the plan drawings to understand the historical development of apartment blocks from the 1920s to the 1960s and also to show the layering of different architectural approaches affecting the daily life in the apartments.

Biography:

Nihan Büşra Kezer received her bachelor’s degree in architecture from Karadeniz Technical University in 2013 and master’s degree in the Architecture Program with a thesis titled “A Survey on Plan Typologies in Apartment Blocks: The Case of Necatibey Neighbourhood, Ankara (1920s-1960s)” from Middle East Technical University in 2017.
